Sjöström S, et al. - In this investigation, researchers assessed the bladder function in children with congenital high-grade vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) who were at school age using a verified voiding-bowel questionnaire with scores and a urine flow/residual study. They evaluated bladder function in the 20 children at a mean age of 7.3 years. The authors discovered that four children had a normal voiding function at follow-up, whereas 11 had a clear bladder/bowel dysfunction (scores 7-19) and five had a mild dysfunction (score 6). Ten of the children with any dysfunction have been recognized as dysfunctional voiding. Bladder function follow-up in children at 7.3 years of age, diagnosed with high-grade VUR and reduced urinary tract dysfunction in infancy, revealed variable seriousness of bladder/bowel dysfunction in most cases.
