Atherogenic index of plasma is a novel and strong predictor associated with fatty liver: A cross-sectional study in the Chinese Han population

Lipids in Health and Disease Sep 18, 2019

Xie F, et al. - A total of 7,838 individuals from the Chinese Han population, aged from 19 to 93 years, were involved in a cross-sectional study in order to investigate the association between atherogenic index of plasma (AIP, has been listed to be a significant predictor for coronary artery disease and obesity) and fatty liver (FL) and assess the predictive ability of AIP for FL in comparison with other compounds. In contrast with non-FL, AIP in FL people revealed a notable rise. A significantly enhanced risk of the fatty liver was noted in individuals in the higher quartiles of AIP in comparison with those in the lowest quartile following adjustment of gender and age. In the female and youth group, ORs were quickly developed. AIP contributed most to the logistic eq and exhibited a high ability in the risk prognostication for FL. In conclusion, AIP might be a novel and strong predictor correlated with FL in the Chinese Han population. Further, the higher AIP level was positively and strongly related to FL.
