Nie XD, Wang Q, Zhang YH, et al. - Among 458 patients peritoneal dialysis (PD)-treated patients followed up for 2 years, researchers examined the link between depression and cognitive decline. A significant reduction in global cognitive function was seen in patients with moderate/severe depression at baseline, while a stable global cognitive function was observed in those without depression or with mild depression. Immediate memory, visuospatial skill, and language ability improved significantly in patients without depression. However, depression groups did not exhibit any significant improvement in these parameters. Overall, depression was identified as a significant risk factor for worsening of cognitive impairment in PD-treated patients.
