Epidemic investigation of benign prostatic obstruction with coexisting overactive bladder in Shanghai Pudong New Area and its impact on the health-related quality of life
BMC Urology Sep 12, 2019
Yi QT, et al. - Researchers examined men aged over 50 and living in Shanghai Pudong New Area for the prevalence, relative risk factors, and the impact on the health-related quality of life of benign prostatic obstruction (BPO) with coexisting overactive bladder (OAB). They selected a total of 1,476 men with complete data for analysis. The overall prevalence of BPO with coexisting OAB of 39.6% was reported. Outcomes revealed no predictive value of maximum flow rate, postvoid residual urine volume and serum prostate-specific antigen for determining whether the patients had a combined BPO + OAB or not. The associated risk factors for BPO with coexisting OAB were the prostate volume and age. They identified BPO as a progressive disease, which could be one of the risk factors for OAB.
