Associations of physical activity with survival and progression in metastatic colorectal cancer: Results from Cancer and Leukemia Group B (Alliance)/SWOG 80405
Journal of Clinical Oncology Aug 19, 2019
Guercio BJ, Zhang S, Ou FS, et al. - In this prospective cohort study nested in Cancer and Leukemia Group B (Alliance)/SWOG 80405, a National Cancer Institute–sponsored phase 3 trial of systemic therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), researchers focused on the impact of regular physical activity in patients with advanced/mCRC. Overall survival (OS) was the primary endpoint of both investigations, and progression-free survival (PFS) and first grade 3 or greater treatment-related adverse events were secondary endpoints. A total of 1,218 patients were included in the final cohort. Findings revealed that the link between physical activity and OS was not statistically significant. Longer PFS and lower adjusted risk for first grade 3 or greater treatment-related adverse events were reported in correlation with greater physical activity.
