Reactive vasodilation predicts mortality in primary systemic light chain (AL) amyloidosis
Circulation Research Aug 19, 2019
Stamatelopoulos K, Georgiopoulos GA, Athanasouli F, et al. - In patients with AL amyloidosis, vascular dysfunction was assessed as a potential future area of intervention and for this purpose, researchers evaluated the prognostic usefulness of flow-mediated vasodilatation (FMD), a marker of vascular reactivity, which is increased under conditions of hypotension and autonomic dysfunction. This study included a prospective assessment of 115 newly diagnosed untreated AL patients with FMD measured. In AL amyloidosis, FMD was found to be relatively increased. Findings also revealed an independent association of FMD with inferior survival with substantial reclassification value. Further exploration of reactive vasodilation as a new risk biomarker in AL amyloidosis is justifiable.
