Facial involvement and the severity of psoriasis

International Journal of Dermatology Aug 16, 2019

Passos AN, et al. - In patients with and without facial lesions, researchers compared the severity of psoriasis, as measured by the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). From April 2014 to January 2016, individuals were included in the HUPES Complex Dermatology Service (Salvador/BA – Brazil). Using PASI and DLQI, assessments of psoriasis severity and quality of life were done, respectively. Among half of the 126 patients involved, facial lesions were detected. The most frequently affected region was the pinna. Findings suggested that facial involvement in a patient with psoriasis may be a marker of severity of disease, and its identification should be considered in therapeutic decision.
