The prognostic value of preoperative controlling nutritional status score in non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with surgery: A retrospective single-institution study

Cancer Management and Research Aug 15, 2019

Song H, Xu B, Luo C, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers focused on the predictive ability of the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score for survival outcome prediction in patients with non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Patients (n = 325) who underwent surgery as a management modality for RCC between 2010 and 2012 at Peking University First Hospital were analyzed. Based on the optimal cut-off value of CONUT score, they categorized patients into two groups. The optimal cut-off value of CONUT score was estimated to be 3. They found a significant correlation between high CONUT score and higher tumor grade, later pathological T stage and tumor necrosis. Worse overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were observed in patients with higher CONUT score. Overall, preoperative CONUT score was identified as an independent prognostic factor for OS, CSS and DFS in non-metastatic RCC patients treated with surgery.
