Barzi A, Lara PM, Tsao-Wei D, et al. - Researchers used the National Cancer Database to determine the outcomes of radical prostatectomy in the United States and their relationship with the caseload. They performed an in-depth analysis of 488,389 cases of radical prostatectomy performed in more than 1000 facilities over a 10-year period. As per outcomes, undergoing surgery in facilities with more experience and greater caseload is correlated with better survival. On comparing patients treated at less experienced vs more experienced centers, they identified a survival difference of up to 13 months. Experience across all stages of prostate cancer vs the number of surgeries performed was a stronger predictor of survival outcome.
