Riikonen JM, Guyatt GH, Kilpeläinen TP, et al. - Researchers examined how decision aids vs usual care are associated with shared decision-making in men deciding whether to undergo prostate cancer screening. Searching MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and Cochrane CENTRAL from inception through June 19, 2018, they included 19 eligible randomized clinical trials (12,781 men) in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes revealed a probable association of decision aids with a small reduction in decisional conflict and their possible association with an increase in knowledge. No strong evidence was gained from randomized clinical trials in support for the utility of decision aids for men contemplating prostate cancer screening that have, up to now, undergone rigorous testing to determine their outcome.
