Relationship between DYNLT1 and Beclin1 expression and the fertilizing potential of human spermatozoa

Andrologia Aug 11, 2019

Elzeiny D, et al. - Experts assessed dynein light chain type 1 (DYNLT1) mRNA expression in mature spermatozoa and examined its correlation with Beclin1 expression to help in the understanding of the pathogenesis of male infertility. Sixty infertile men were randomized into idiopathic (n = 20), accessory gland inflammation (n = 20), and varicocele (n = 20) groups, and 20 healthy fertile men as a control group. In spermatozoa from infertile individuals of various aetiologies, Beclin1 mRNA and protein were significantly elevated when compared with healthy controls. Nevertheless, in infertile groups vs controls DYNLT1 mRNA expression was significantly reduced. Mature spermatozoa extracted from all investigated individuals exhibited elevated DYNLT1 mRNA and decreased Beclin1 mRNA and protein expression in contrast with the whole sample. Hence, in mature spermatozoa, reduced Beclin1 and increased DYNLT1 mRNA expression could give an insight into the biological processes that are activated or suppressed during sperm maturation.
