Sedentary behavior and prostate cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

Cancer Prevention Research Aug 06, 2019

Berger FF, Leitzmann MF, Hillreiner A, et al. - Whether sedentary behavior is a potential risk factor for prostate cancer was investigated via this systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies. These studies were identified from PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases searched up to January 2019. Overall 12 prospective cohort studies with 30,810 prostate cancer cases were analyzed. Analysis of the data from these studies revealed that sedentary behavior was not independently related to prostate cancer. However, a possible link of prolonged sedentary behavior with a higher risk of aggressive prostate cancer via a mechanism relating to obesity was suggested.
