Dietary patterns are not associated with brain atrophy or cerebral small vessel disease in older adults with and without type 2 diabetes

The Journal of Nutrition Jul 28, 2019

Zabetian-Targhi F, et al. - In older people (aged 55–90 years) with (n = 343) and without (n = 346) type 2 diabetes, researchers used multivariable linear regression to assess the links between dietary patterns (DPs), brain structure, and cognition. In this cross-sectional study, they evaluated dietary intake using the 80-item Cancer Council of Victoria FFQ. For people with type 2 diabetes and for those without, they derived two DPs (prudent and traditional) and 3 DPs (prudent, traditional, and Western), respectively, using principal component analysis. No independent association of DPs with brain structure was found in people with or without type 2 diabetes in this study.
