Vitamin D status is not associated with orthostatic hypotension in older adults

Hypertension Jul 26, 2019

Laird EJ, et al. - In a large, nationally representative older adult population (aged >50 years) from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing, researchers examined the link between vitamin D status and orthostatic hypotension, using a traceable standard of measurement and an accurate evaluation of beat-to-beat blood pressure. Overall, 4,209 participants were analyzed after applying the exclusion criteria. The likelihood of being smokers, receiving antihypertensive medications, and having higher levels of cardiovascular disorders was found to be greater among those with deficiency vs those with sufficient status. Overall, findings revealed no significant link of vitamin D with orthostatic hypotension in older adults.
