The characteristics of 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and its relationship with cardiovascular target organ damage in Chinese Han patients with concomitant type 2 diabetes and hypertension

Blood Pressure Monitoring Jul 19, 2019

Li S, et al. - Researchers examined Chinese Han patients with concomitant type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension to determine the features of 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and its link with cardiovascular target organ damage (left ventricular hypertrophy and carotid atherosclerosis) in these subjects. Based on blood pressure patterns, the participants (n=830) were classified into four groups. Findings revealed the presence of a curiously high prevalence of non-dipper blood pressure patterns in these patients. A significant association of abnormal systolic blood pressure level and hyperglycemia with a non-dipper blood pressure pattern was evident. Close associations of non-dipper blood pressure pattern, hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia, with left ventricular hypertrophy and carotid atherosclerosis were also observed.
