Holmberg MJ, et al. - Researchers created a negative binomial regression model by using the Get With The Guidelines–Resuscitation registry to determine the estimates of the current annual incidence of in-hospital cardiac arrest in adults and children across the United States. They also analyzed trends in incidence between 2008 and 2017. Per year, nearly 292,000 adult in-hospital cardiac arrests and 15,200 pediatric in-hospital events were reported in the United States, including 7,100 and 8,100 cases of pulseless cardiac arrests and nonpulseless events, respectively. A rise has been reported in the rate of adult cardiac arrests over time; pediatric events continued to be more stable. The estimate of average annual incidence was 357,900 adult and 19,900 pediatric cases, including 8300 cases of pulseless cardiac arrests and 11,600 of nonpulseless events, when both index and recurrent in-hospital cardiac arrests were included.
