Onozuka D, et al. - Via performing an interrupted time series quasi-experimental design analysis involving 808,055 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCAs) of presumed cardiac origin in Japan, researchers evaluated the potential association between consumption tax rate increase and OHCA. The increase in consumption tax rate made everything more expensive, and correlated with decreasing alcohol, tobacco, and food consumption patterns. Also, psychosocial factors were identified as independent etiological and prognostic factors for coronary heart disease. Overall, the initiation of a consumption tax rate increase was linked to a substantial reduction in the incidence of OHCAs.
