Sullivan CB, et al. - Researchers examined survival outcomes in a retrospective cohort of patients diagnosed with T3 or T4 cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head or neck treated with surgical resection at 1 tertiary academic medical center. Inclusion criteria were met by 43 patients; of these 34 (79.1%) patients were male. The patients had the mean age of 74.7 years at diagnosis. Outcomes revealed worse overall survival in correlation to anatomical subsites, specifically scalp/neck tumors. A worse prognosis was observed in patients with positive final margins. Patients who underwent radical surgical resection vs soft tissue resection were not significantly different regarding overall survival and recurrence.
