Bevan GH, et al. – Because symptomatic severe aortic stenosis is linked to high mortality rates—up to 50% at 1 year—and the prevalence will likely rise with the aging population, researchers investigated trends mortality due to aortic stenosis. This investigation comes on the heels of recent therapeutic advances, such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, which is considered an alternative to surgical valve replacement for older patients as well as moderate- and high-risk patients.
