Effects of growth hormone therapy on metabolic parameters, adipokine and endothelial dysfunction in prepuberal children

Cañete MD, et al. - Among 36 growth hormone deficiency (GHD) children and 38 healthy children, researchers ascertained if non-obese prepubertal children with GHD present changes in lipid metabolism, and adipokines, and evaluated the short-term impacts of growth hormone (GH) treatment on these parameters. The changes in the levels of insulin and homeostatic model assessment – insulin resistance were inversely correlated with changes in the levels of HDL cholesterol and Apo A1. There has also been a correlation between changes in levels of adiponectin and changes in levels of HDL cholesterol and Apo A1. Leptin-level variations were correlated with triglyceride changes. According to findings, there are altered lipid profiles and adipokine levels in prepubertal non-obese GHD children. These variables are improved by replacement therapy with GH.
