Joseph FG, et al. - In this tertiary centre retrospective audit, researchers identified the number of inappropriate thyroid ultrasound (US) requests, the quality of radiology reporting for thyroid nodules based on accepted guidelines and the resulting number of thyroid cancers identified as a result of these investigations. Data were assessed using descriptive statistics for 251 patients who had completed thyroid US and the final 201 patients who were discovered to have thyroid nodules. According to findings, routine use is common outside expert recommendation of US thyroid imaging. When evaluating thyroid nodules on US, there is a lack of standardised reporting. Limiting the initial use of US in cases of palpable neck lumps and the use of systematic reporting according to the 2017 guidelines published by the American College of Radiology Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (ACR TI-RADS) may in the future decrease unnecessary thyroid nodular investigations.
