Shah A, et al. - Via a systematic review and meta-analysis of total of 68 studies who met all inclusion criteria, the researchers intended to is to investigate patient-related factors may influence length of stay (LOS) following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Increased age, female gender, body mass index ≥ 30, non-white race, American Society of Anesthesiologists > 2, Charlson Comorbidity Index > 0, and preoperative hemoglobin < 130 g/L were concluded by the authors as predictors of increased LOS. Steady decrease over the past decades with the implementation of perioperative “fast-track” programs in mean LOS has been noticed.
