Biscetti F, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis of type-2 diabetic patients, researchers focused on the potential role of omentin-1 in peripheral artery disease (PAD) in these subjects. In 600 type-2 diabetic patients with (n = 300) and without (n = 300) PAD at Fontaine’s stage II, III, or IV, they assessed serum levels of omentin-1 by ELISA. According to the findings, type 2 diabetic patients with PAD had reduced omentin-1. A link between omentin-1 and disease severity was also evident in this study. Even after adjusting for major risk factors in a multivariate analysis, the link between omentin-1 levels and PAD continued to be of importance.
