Analysis of factors affecting re-admission after retrograde intrarenal surgery for renal stone
World Journal of Urology May 30, 2019
Kim TJ, et al. - Among renal stone patients, researchers sought to determine factors related to hospital readmission following retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS). Participants were 572 patients who underwent RIRS from June 2011 to December 2017 and had a mean age of 57.6 ± 14.1 years. The mean stone diameter was 13.4 ± 6.2 mm. They retrospectively assessed patients who sought readmission because of surgery-related complications. A higher rate of re-admission was more likely to be seen among patients with complex renal stones or those who underwent bilateral RIRS. Re-admission after RIRS was significantly predicted by bilateral RIRS and stone complexity, as revealed in multivariate analysis. Keeping these factors in mind, planning proper perioperative management to prevent complications is recommended.
