Zgheib H, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers assessed how younger (age 45 years or young) patients (cases) presenting with STEMI to the emergency department differ from older adults (aged > 45 years) with STEMI (controls) in terms of outcomes. For this purpose, they undertook descriptive and bivariate analyses followed by logistic regression. They matched 107 cases with 214 controls. A higher prevalence of single-vessel disease was found among younger patients vs older patients (73% vs 50%). In both groups, the most commonly blocked vessel was LAD. Males were predominantly affected by premature MI, and smoking and family history of MI were identified as the associated risk factors.
