Rajani NB, et al. - Researchers examined over 250,000 participants from nearly 30 European Union (EU) countries who participated in Eurobarometer surveys in order to better understand general life satisfaction statistics in the EU as well as to examine the link between environmental factors and life satisfaction using a three-level mixed effects logistic regression model. Life satisfaction varied widely between countries, as well as between regions within the same country. The investigators found no statistically significant links of mean temperature and precipitation with life satisfaction after adjusting for individual sociodemographic factors. However, a statistically significant link between environmental degradation and lower life satisfaction was evident. In line with existing literature, life satisfaction was shown to be statistically significantly influenced by sociodemographic factors such as sex, financial situation, and employment status.
