Sentís A, et al. – In this population-based incidence study, researchers assessed epidemiological characteristics and trends in the incidence of gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV and venereal lymphogranuloma (LGV) among adolescents and young adults (aged 15–24 years) in Barcelona, Spain, and determined factors associated with HIV coinfection. They examined 1,218 cases from 2001 to 2015. In all, they noted a rise in the incidence of gonorrhea and syphilis among individuals aged 15-24 years. There was also an increased rate of HIV cases observed among men who had sex with men (MSM). The determinants correlated with HIV coinfection included MSM, having sex with multiple partners, and having a diagnosis of an STI in the previous 12 months.
