Neurourology and Urodynamics May 10, 2019

von Gontard A, et al. - Researchers focused on the contribution of psychological comorbidities toward the aetiology of lower urinary tract disorders (LUTD) as well as addressed optimal service implementation. For this purpose, they analyzed studies reporting comorbid psychological symptoms and disorders in patients with LUTD over the life-span. Patients with LUTD more commonly developed psychological comorbidities across all age groups, as revealed by the evidence. Vice versa, higher rates of LUTD were present in patients with psychiatric disorders. Overall, a decisive role of psychological symptoms and disorders in the development of LUTD was evident in all age groups and evaluation and treatment of LUTD deserve consideration of psychological symptoms and disorders.
