The role of renal biomarkers to predict the need of surgery in congenital urinary tract obstruction in infants
Journal of Pediatric Urology Apr 14, 2019
Kostic D, et al. - Data were delineated to quantify the use of renal biomarkers in the prediction of the demand for surgery in congenital urinary tract obstruction (UTO) in infants. Demonstration of high potential as a non-invasive diagnostic tool to recognize newborns who might be benefitted from preceding surgical intervention was possible with Urine biomarkers alone and in combination too. They noted a significant increase in all renal biomarker values in all cases vs the control group. They noted the best performance of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin alone and in combination with urine and serum CyC in determining the demand for surgery.
