The overlooked association between lower urinary tract dysfunction and psychiatric disorders: A short screening test for clinical practice
Journal of Pediatric Urology Apr 09, 2019
Ozen MA, et al. - To investigate the relationship between the subgroups of both lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) and psychiatric disorders, authors estimated 156 children. They observed overactive bladder (OAB) in 76 cases, dysfunctional voiding (DV) in 53 and primary bladder neck dysfunction (PBND) in 14, whereas 13 had underactive bladder (UAB). They detected the psychiatric disorder in 46 children (32 with an externalizing and 14 with an internalizing disorder). Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was the most common psychiatric disorder reported among 16.1% of cases. They suggested the combined prevalence of LUTD and psychiatric disorders and could be identified by the short screening test for psychological problems.
