Iyer DG, et al. - Data from National Center for Health Statistics Multiple Causes of Death mortality files from 2003 to 2012 was studied to quantify the years of possible life lost due to ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular disease among the 6 largest Asian-American subgroups vs non-Hispanic whites. They noted a high burden of ischemic heart disease among Asian-Indians with males lost 724 years per 100,000 population in 2012 and a mean of 17 years to ischemic heart disease. They reported the highest years of life lost because of cerebrovascular disease among Filipino and Vietnamese. Whereas Asian-Indian and Filipino, populations had the highest years of life lost because of ischemic heart disease.
