Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 is a risk factor for diabetic kidney disease

Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Mar 26, 2019

Hu Y, et al. - In patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), researchers ascertained if there was a relationship between lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), a marker for inflammation in the vessel wall and independently related to atherosclerosis, and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) incidence. In this retrospective cross-sectional study with 1,452 patients, increased plasma level of Lp-PLA2 was linked to incidence and development of DKD in T2D patients. For early detection and follow-up of DKD, Lp-PLA2 should be considered as a biomarker.
