Prophylactic use of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators in the prevention of sudden cardiac death in dialysis patients: The prospective randomized controlled ICD2 trial
Circulation Mar 24, 2019
Jukema JW, et al. - Researchers examined the feasibility and value of a prophylactic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) to prevent sudden cardiac death (SCD) in the ICD2 trial. They included 188 patients on dialysis with a left ventricular ejection fraction ≥35%. The ICD group included 97 patients and the control group included 91 patients. Outcomes revealed no reduced rate of SCD or all-cause mortality with prophylactic ICD therapy in this well-screened and well-treated population undergoing dialysis.
