Predictors of response to endobronchial coil therapy in patients with advanced emphysema
Chest Mar 22, 2019
Slebos DJ, et al. - In this post hoc analysis, researchers investigated baseline predictors (including quantitative CT measures) for a significantly beneficial response to endobronchial coil therapy in 125 patients who had evaluable 12-month follow-up findings. They determined features related to the clinical response by using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. As far as patient selection and treatment planning for endobronchial coil therapy were concerned, the importance of significant hyperinflation (residual volume ≥ 200% predicted) and CT analysis was shown. For the detection of optimal lobar treatment and for the exclusion of patients with insufficient emphysema (< 20% low attenuation area), the significance of quantitative CT analysis was evident, whereas patients with signs of airway disease related to worse outcomes were detected via visual assessment.
