Shuaib AM, et al. - A sum of 30 eyes were estimated to study the outcomes of sutureless transscleral intraocular lens (IOL) fixation vs retropupillary iris-claw lens implantation in pediatric aphakia cases without capsular support. Researchers observed a decline in endothelial cell count (ECC) by 14.6% in the transscleral-fixated IOL group and 11% in the iris-claw group at 6 months. Similar visual consequences were noticed in both techniques. They explained retropupillary iris-claw lens fixation, a shorter procedure and technically easier as compared to sutureless transscleral fixation. They suggested scleral fixation as the single option in case of severe iris damage. But it might be correlated with more endothelial cell loss.
