The suppressive role of HYAL1 and HYAL2 in the metastasis of colorectal cancer

Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Mar 21, 2019

Jin Z, et al. - Given that whether hyaluronidases (HAases), enzymes that degrade hyaluronan, serve as tumor promoters or suppressors has been controversial in different cancers, researchers analyzed the exact role of HAases in colorectal cancer (CRC). immunohistochemistry was used to examine the expression levels of HYAL-1, -2 and -3 in cancer and corresponding normal tissues from CRC patients. The correlation between the levels of HAases and CRC patients' pathological characteristics was then analyzed. Findings revealed that all three HAases in cancer tissues have been abnormally elevated. Results of this study suggested that HYAL1 and HYAL2 suppress CRC metastasis by regulating the balance of MMPs/TIMPs and rearranging the distribution of F-actin, further inhibiting cancer cell invasion and migration.
