The risk of Helicobacter pylori infection for adverse pregnancy outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Helicobacter Mar 21, 2019

Zhan Y, et al. - Using PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of science databases through November 17, 2018, investigators conducted a systematic literature search for relevant publications to evaluate current evidence as to whether Helicobacter pylori infection during pregnancy had adverse effects on pregnancy. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, 31 studies with a total of 22,845 participants were identified. A significant association of H pylori infection with preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, gestational diabetes mellitus, spontaneous abortion and birth defect was found. Through sensitivity analysis, a significant connection between H pylori infection and low birthweight was detected. According to the findings, H pylori infection during pregnancy can increase the risk of adverse pregnancy results. Screening and treatment should be considered before pregnancy for H pylori infection.
