Li Z, et al. – Researchers examined 97,242 breast cancer (BC) cases from 1998 to 2013 to evaluate the incidence and related risk factors of second primary malignancy (SPM) among BC patients. They noted an excess risk for SPM among BC cases vs the general population. They found an inverse relationship between the incidence of SPM and age. They also noted a relation of SPM risk to the following demographical and clinical variables: age, race (black vs white), histological type (lobular BC vs ductal BC), radiotherapy, marital status (married vs single), and estrogen receptor status (positive vs negative). They observed consistent results in subgroup analysis stratified by contralateral-breast SPMs and non-breast SPMs.
