Serum multiple cytokines for the prediction of spontaneous preterm birth in asymptomatic women: A nested case-control study

Cytokine Mar 14, 2019

Huang L, et al. - In this nested case-control study, researchers tested the ability of the combinations of specific serum cytokines to accurately predict the spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) risk in asymptomatic women. Participants were 129 incident sPTB cases and 258 individually matched controls. For selected 35 cytokines, serum levels in the mothers were determined. They used conditional logistic regression and elastic net model to determine the link between the multiple cytokines and sPTB risk. In asymptomatic women, the risk of sPTB could be more effectively predicted by the combination of selected serum cytokines vs the use of single cytokine.
