Closed wound subfascial suction drainage in posterior fusion surgery for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: A prospective randomized control study
Spine Mar 09, 2019
Ovadia D, et al. - Researchers quantified 100 candidates to delineate comparatively, the complication rate in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) posterior spinal fusion (PSF) surgery with and without drainage. They categorized 58 cases to the 'no drain' group whereas 48 to the 'drain' group. No variations in patient symptoms, surgical data, and hemoglobin, as well as hematocrit levels between the two groups, were noticed with a comparable length of hospitalization (6 days) for all cases. No benefit to deep drainage in AIS patients undergoing PSF was indicated. They conferred a low and similar incidence of wound healing complications for both the drain and no-drain groups.
