Role and impact of chronic cough in individuals with asthma from the general population

The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Mar 07, 2019

Çolak Y, et al. - In this investigation involving 14,740 adults from the Copenhagen General Population Study, researchers examined whether asthmatics with chronic cough have a more severe disease phenotype compared with asthmatics without chronic cough. Among those with asthma (n=855), 70 had chronic cough, and these individuals more frequently experienced respiratory symptoms, healthcare utilizations, severe airflow limitation with forced expiratory volume in 1 second predicted < 60%, and higher levels of systemic inflammatory biomarkers in blood. Thus, an association of chronic cough in asthmatics with more severe disease phenotype was supported in this study.
