Determinants and consequences of financial hardship among adult survivors of childhood cancer: A report from the St. Jude Lifetime Cohort Study
Journal of the National Cancer Institute Mar 06, 2019
Huang IC, et al. – In this study, researchers assessed determinants and consequences of financial hardship among 2,811 long-term childhood cancer survivors. They determined material, psychological, and coping/behavioral domains to assess financial hardship. Health and life insurance affordability, retirement planning, symptoms, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) comprised outcomes. Material, psychological, and coping/behavioral hardships were reported in 22.4%, 51.1%, and 33.0% of participants, respectively. Hardship was noted in correlation with vulnerable sociodemographic status and late effects. They noted an increased risk of symptom prevalence and impaired HRQOL among survivors with financial hardship.
