New recommendations on nebulisation inhalation therapy for patients of 2019-nCoV

M3 India Newsdesk Mar 02, 2020

Coronavirus (2019-nCov) continues to spread in different countries, victimising more and more people. While researchers are still conducting clinical trials to invent an effective drug/vaccine, it is essential to take measures to reduce the chances of cross-infection among the infected patients, for which doctors often resort to the nebulisation inhalation treatment for patients. Here we give you highlights from a new guideline on nebulisation inhalation therapy for coronavirus patients as published by the Chinese Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care.

To ensure that the nebulisation inhalation treatment provides optimum results, guidelines have been framed which give recommendations and advice to doctors, who are in charge of treating patients of Coronaviruses.

Key points from the guideline

  • Take precautionary measures for the safety of the medical staff involved in providing treatments
  • Use discretion while choosing aerosol drugs
  • Preferably use a combination of metered-dose inhaler (MDI) with a mist storage tank
  • You may need to use attachments such as a filters and a cavity adapter in case of a deviation from using MDI with a mist storage tank
  • Ensure you take appropriate steps to prevent secondary exposure
