NFCR scientist and associates at ASCO 2019

National Foundation for Cancer Research Jun 02, 2019

The work of at least seven National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) scientists will be featured during the 55th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), most prominently, Rakesh Jain, PhD. He will join over 30,000 physicians, researchers, administrators, and other professionals for the largest yearly gathering of cancer specialists in the world. The important affair runs from tomorrow through Tuesday, June 4, in Chicago, IL, which has long played its host.

Dr. Jain, an NFCR fellow, is Andrew Werk Cook professor of tumor biology at Harvard Medical School and director of the Edwin L. Steele Laboratory for Tumor Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital. One of no more than two dozen persons to be elected to each of the three primary National Academies—those of Science, Medicine, and Engineering—he will be chairing an education session on Saturday afternoon, June 1, focused on reprogramming the tumor microenvironment.

In addition, six other NFCR-affiliated scientists with co-authored papers being showcased over 16 poster sessions at ASCO 2019 are:

  • Fellows
  • Scientific Advisory Board member Ruggero De Maria
  • Recently funded scientists

We join the global cancer science community and our colleagues in the vast oncology funding, patient, caregiver, and advocacy fields, in calling attention to the groundbreaking, insightful, and promising work being profiled by ASCO in the coming few days. Such efforts further continue to be about the NFCR motto and call to action: Research for a Cure!
