Kittrick A Mc et al. – The study aimed to identify the factors contributing to the development of critical care polyneuropathy in patients with severe burn injuries and admitted in an intensive care unit (ICU). The authors concluded that management of critical care neuropathy in cases with severe burns is extremely challenging, and there is lack of evidence on the long–term impact of polyneuropathy on functional performance.

Methods

• An integrative review of 10 studies searched from PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and CINHAL, which included 128 critical care polyneuropathy patients.

Results

• Prolonged ventilation (>7 days), large and deep total body surface area burns (mean TBSA 40%), and sepsis were the major contributing factors to critical care neuropathy development.
