Diagnostic performance of third trimester ultrasound for the prediction of late-onset fetal growth restriction: A systematic review and meta-analysis

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jan 15, 2019

Caradeux J, et al. - Researchers reviewed data from prospective and retrospective cohort studies that reported on low-risk or non-selected singleton pregnancies with screening ultrasound performed at ≥ 32 weeks of gestation in order to determine the diagnostic performance of ultrasound screening for predicting late smallness for gestational age (SGA) and/or fetal growth restriction (FGR). Findings revealed similar performance between third-trimester abdominal circumference (AC) and estimated fetal weight (EFW) in predicting SGA. However, extrapolated sensitivity was higher for AC for a fixed 10% false positive rate (FPR). Better performance was evident when the scan was performed near term and when FGR was the targeted condition.
