High-sensitivity cardiac troponin T as a predictor of acute total occlusion in patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome

Baro R, et al. - In this single-center retrospective study including 1,011 patients with non-ST-segment acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS), researchers evaluated high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) as predictor of acute total occlusion (TO) of the culprit artery. Study participants had coronary angiography and hs-cTnT measured on admission and had mean age 67.12±13.18; a full 74.1% were male. Acute TO presentation was observed in 7.3% of the patients. According to findings, hs-cTnT measurements enabled a good prediction of acute TO in patients with NSTE-ACS. Acute TO of a major coronary vessel was highly predicted by hs-cTnT values greater than 1,006 ng/L (71.8 fold of the URL).
