Cytokine levels in the aqueous humor are associated with corneal thickness in eyes with bullous keratopathy
American Journal of Ophthalmology Oct 17, 2018
Suzuki N, et al. - Authors gauged the correlation between bullous keratopathy severity and proinflammatory cytokine levels in the aqueous humor (AqH). Findings suggested an association of corneal edema severity in eyes with bullous keratopathy with the levels of specific cytokines in the AqH. Compared to normal controls, the levels of protein, interleukin[IL]-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p70, IL-17A, MCP-1, IFN-γ, E-selectin, P-selectin, and sICAM-1 were significantly higher in eyes with bullous keratopathy. They noted a significant association of central corneal thickness (CCT) with the levels of IL-13, and sICAM-1
