Evaluation of vitamin D status and its correlation with gonadal function in children at mini-puberty
Clinical Endocrinology Sep 25, 2018
Kilinç S, et al. - Researchers performed this cross-sectional cohort analysis to describe the relationships between 25(OH)D levels and gonadal hormones at mini-puberty (defined as hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis activation during the first 6 months of life) by analyzing data from 180 (94 boys and 86 girls) healthy appropriate-for-gestational age neonates. They identified a modest effect of 25(OH)D on total testosterone and inhibin B in girls at mini-puberty. During early life, 25(OH)D might have an effect on gonadal function. In 25(OH)D deficient vs sufficient girls, total testosterone level was higher and inhibin B was lower.
