Comparison of clinicopathologic characteristics, epigenetic biomarkers and prognosis between renal pelvic and ureteral tumors in upper tract urothelial carcinoma

BMC Urology Apr 01, 2018

Fang D, et al. - The clinicopathologic features, gene promoter methylation status, and oncologic outcomes were determined. The oncologic prognosticators were also determined. Significant differences in clinicopathologic characteristics and epigenetic biomarkers were exhibited by renal pelvic tumors and ureteral tumors. Gene promoter methylation could be an important mechanism to explain distinct tumor patterns and behaviors in upper tract urothelial carcinomas (UTUCs). Cancer-specific survival, overall survival, iand ntravesical or contralateral recurrence could not be independently predicted by the tumor location, while gene methylation status was demonstrated to be an independent prognostic factor.
